This site is sponsored by the
American Resources Group®, Washington, D.C., in cooperation with
the
National Historic Lookout Register.
Lookout Hosts are
volunteers who serve in fire lookouts to look for fires, relay radio
messages, and otherwise help in forest information programs. They
provide a public contact to answer questions and hand out materials.
Volunteers are given a
place to stay while on site but off duty, sometimes that is a place
to park their mobile home/trailer when appropriate. Often
workmen's compensation insurance is provided, and sometimes a small
stipend, but this is primarily a volunteer effort.
